We must remember that Canada’s history did not start with colonization. We need to advocate to the province to make sure the new curriculum includes the diverse past of our indigenous population and speaks to the realities of colonization and the effect that it had then and still has to this day. We must ensure that it is covered in great detail and not just given lip service. Our history, good or bad, needs to be taught accurately so that we can learn and grow. There needs to be a commitment to the calls to action presented by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. I’m steadfast in having it addressed and will work tirelessly to not allow it to be swept under the rug by the province.
